Hi friends! I went on a super fun little road trip to Phoenix, Arizona over the weekend and wanted to share all the juicy details with you (JK the details aren’t juicy). But first let me just apologize in advance for the not so great photos. All of these were taken on the iPhone 5s that I’m still sporting but it was all I had to work with for this trip!
The drive from Long Beach to Phoenix is about 5 1/2 to 6 hours, so we made sure to load up on road trip snacks before getting in the car. Even with the road trip snacking, our first stop once we got to Phoenix was vegan restaurant, Green. I got the bff burger, which comes with breaded “chicken”, jalapenos (I ordered mine without because I’m a wimp when it comes to spicy food), avocado, lettuce, tomato, and vegan cheese and ranch. OMG it was delicious! Afterward we somehow still had room for dessert so we went next door to Nami, which offers delicious vegan baked goods, coffee, and tSoynamis (pictured below). We couldn’t resist sharing a s’mores tSoynami and let me tell you, it was every bit as delicious as it looks!
With bellies full, we went to check into the hotel, Found:RE Phoenix. As you can see from the photos, this hotel is very hip and modern, maybe a little too much for my taste. But it was a really nice hotel and I would definitely stay again. My only complaint was that you had to pay for parking. Boo.
Hotel photos are from Found:Re
The hotel also has this fun “FIND YOURSELF” sign right outside. Perfect photo-op!
After a long drive and a big meal, nothing sounded nicer than lounging by the pool for a few hours. If you’re going to visit Phoenix in the summer I would definitely recommend getting a hotel or airbnb with a pool because it is HOT! Found:RE had a really nice little pool area and it was nice to sit in the cool water while reading my book. I’m finally reading “Me Before You” and I’m loving it so far! It’s definitely a book you have trouble putting down. Get it here if you’re interested.
After we cooled down a little bit we decided to go get dinner and walk around a little. We ate at Ike’s, my all time favorite sandwich shop because they have lots of vegan options. They have locations all over California, and seem to be expanding quickly. After eating we wandered around Roosevelt Row, got kombucha on tap from a cute little place called Bicycle Nomad Cafe, then went to the Japanese Friendship Garden. We got there right before they closed so we only had about ten minutes to go in and walk around, but it was really pretty and there were lots of koi fish in the pond which was pretty cool. It would be a really nice garden to go to for a picnic.
The next day we stocked up on snacks and lunch at Whole Foods and then headed out for a little day trip to Sedona, which was actually the real reason we decided to go to Arizona but ended up staying in Phoenix because it was a lot cheaper. Sedona is about a two hour drive from Phoenix but it’s very scenic, especially as you get closer to town and start to see all the red rocks. Once we arrived, we parked by the Uptown Sedona shopping area and walked around, visited the shops (there are lots of crystal shops if you’re into that sort of thing), and took in the gorgeous view. We could only handle being out in the heat for a few hours, so after visiting all the shops we headed back to Phoenix to lounge by the pool some more. I would definitely like to go back to Sedona during the cooler months and do some hiking because I’m sure there are more even prettier views that we missed out on.
The next morning we headed back home, but made sure to make a stop at the Cabazon Dinosaurs, which if you’re unfamiliar is just a quirky roadside attraction featuring two huge dinosaurs. There’s actually a whole museum you can visit, but we just stopped to see the dinos and take some pictures.
And now I’m home sweet home! It was really fun to see all the desert scenery and red rocks, explore downtown Phoenix, and lounge by the pool! I can’t wait for my next little getaway, wherever that will be. Any suggestions?
